Three years ago, by writing his story How I joined Google, Sebastien Gabriel shared his personal experience before he was found by Google. He said that is not a guide on how to get a job at Google, but still, we can get some clues of how to prepare yourself well until your chance comes.

Seeseed has included Sebastien’s personal website Sebastien-Gabriel.com

1.Please pick three words to describe yourself, and why?

"It's hard for me to find 3 words that describe me. I can try 3 words that creates a principle I'm trying to live by which is "Stay the course".

It reminds me to have grit and keep up with my choices when my will flinches."

2.Please tell us your favorite websites and apps. (and movies if you like)

"In term of website I'd say Abduzeedo.com. I definitely do no check it as much as I used to but it's the one that gave me the inspiration to be a designer.

Favorite apps is probably PocketCast, it's probably the app I used the most because I love podcasts."

3.The bravest thing you ever done is?

"Probably moving to the US with my wife. Not sure if that's "brave" but it's a tough decision."

4.How do you define a Good Designer? And how to be one of them in your opinion?

"A good designer is someone that adds value to whatever he's working on via good UX practices and respect for its users.

A good designer also knows to work with engineering and know his/her place in the process. He should also be a good diplomat and be able to adapt to his or her environment. To become a good designer you need to be aware of the skills you need to develop for the specific tasks you have to do. The definition of a designer varies a lot and there's not one recipe for success."

5. Designers from which country impress you the most?

"I see great designers from every country, especially for digital designers. Internet knows almost not bounds and barriers."

6.Do you believe that AI will finally replace designers in the future? Why?

"I don't think so, "designer" will just mean something different than today by then."

7.Are you doing any side project or, is there any project you’ve dreamed of doing?

"I do not because I do not have the time. What I'm trying to do is write interesting articles and spread a bit more knowledge. If it helps a few beginners, then I'm happy."

8.Many Chinese designers love Sebastien-Gabriel, anything you want to say to them?

"I had no idea it was even known in China so I guess I'd simply say 谢谢."
